COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERING PROJECT

Overview

Through this project, the Volunteer Medical Corps chapters/volunteers collaborate with Local Health authorities to ensure equitable health care access for those in their communities. Through the CVP, VMC Volunteers serve by providing specialized medical services as skilled VOLUNTEER personnel at selected primary health care centers.

TYPES OF VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

Provision of Clinical Support Services
• Diagnosis & Treatment of common acute and chronic disease and continuing care of varied medical conditions such as Diabetes Care, Hypertension Care, etc.

• Emergency Care: this involves the provision of Emergency Medical Services that can be treated in a primary care clinic or setting for an unexpected health condition requiring immediate attention as determined by the appropriate medical staff


• Family Planning Services which assist patients in achieving optimal reproductive and general health

• Preventative Health Services  offer medical care that focuses on disease prevention and health maintenance (i.e. immunizations, cancer screening services, screenings for chronic conditions, and health screening)


• Wound care and other  nursing procedures

• Occupational/physical therapy

• Community Health Education: Plan and present lessons to members of the community on home-based care topics, including HIV/AIDS, malaria prevention, personal hygiene, drug administration, recording information, first aid, wound care, bed bathing, infection prevention, sexual health awareness, nutrition and digestion, TB and rehabilitation.
Assistance with Patient Welfare Support Services

• Meal delivery/dining assistance

• Patient transportation and escort

• Medical records

• Data Entry/Filing

• Laboratory support services

Participation in Special Projects
• Health fairs
• Free Clinic Days
• Free Screening Days

4. Ensure you have your VMC branded Tshirt/Scrubs/Stickers/Wardcoat
