GOOD KIDNEY HEALTH
The kidney is a very vital organ in our body, it is important for our overall health and well-being. The kidneys in your body are fist-sized organs located at the bottom of your rib cage, on both sides of your spine. The kidneys perform several functions including filtering waste products, excess water, and other impurities from your blood. The kidneys also regulate pH and potassium levels in the body, they produce hormones that help regulate the blood pressure, control the production of red blood cells, and activates a form of vitamin D that helps our body absorb calcium for building bones and regulating muscle functions.
It is therefore very important to maintain good kidney health. Here are some tips for healthy kidneys:
1. Stay Active!
Regular exercise can help reduce your blood pressure and boost your heart health, both of which are important to preventing kidney damage.
2. Watch your Weight! Eat Healthily!
Being overweight or obese can put you at risk of some health conditions that can lead to the damage of your kidneys. So, watch your weight, eat healthy diets low in sodium and other kidney damaging foods. Eat enough fruits and vegetables!
3. Avoid Smoking!
Smoking does a lot of damage to your body’s blood vessels. This leads to slower blood flow throughout your body and your kidneys.
Smoking also puts your kidneys at an increased risk for cancer. If you stop smoking, your risk will drop. However, it’ll take many years to return to the risk level of a person who’s never smoked.
4. Stay Hydrated!
Regular water intake is healthy for your kidneys. It helps clear sodium and toxins from your kidneys and reduces the risk of chronic kidney disease.
5. Speak the Word!
The Bible in Proverbs 4:20-22 says: “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life into those that find them and health to all their flesh.” Continually speak faith-filled words to every organ and part of your body!
