Over the years, malaria has been a major public health concern in many countries, particularly across Sub Saharan Africa, which bears 96% of the global burden.
This preventable disease has affected millions of vulnerable children and adults over the years because of the lack of funds to access basic healthcare, and many living in an unhealthy environment. In response to this challenge and in commemoration of the VMC World Malaria Day Campaign, VMC Yenegoa carried out a mega outreach in Swali and Ovom community in Bayelsa state, Nigeria.
The team provided free health talk, malaria prophylaxis and treatment, de-worming of children and distribution of free insecticide-treated nets and mosquito repellent creams.
Over 250 residents benefited form this act of love and kindness by the team. The King of Swali community and his household were not left out as the VMC team also paid a special visit to the palace, attended to all the members of his household and provided them with malaria drugs, insecticide treated net and anti-hypertensives to those that needed it.
We can do more to help prevent needless deaths and disabilities from malaria infection.
Together, we can provide support for those living in malaria-endemic communities that are more seriously affected through the sponsorship of malaria care and prevention packs.
