In response to a recent outbreak of cholera and conjunctivitis, members of the VMC Maiduguri Chapter organized a health screening and WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) outreach during which they provided health education on stress management, proper handwashing training, and free medical screening to primary school teachers and caregivers.
The disease outbreak had contributed to reduced productivity and absence from school by both students and teachers.
The objective of this outreach was to improve the learning outcomes of the pupils and improve overall sanitation and hygiene within the host school.
The team carried out demonstrations of proper handwashing techniques and donated cleaning supplies to the school.
As a result of the blood pressure screening, two high-risk patients – a lady with pregnancy-induced hypertension and a man suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) were identified. These patients were prayed for and referred for proper medical attention.
