HOW TO CARE FOR RASHES

  • Aug 24, 2020

Rashes are abnormal changes in skin color or texture and rashes occur as a result of inflammatory responses in the skin as a result of exposure to various substances or causative materials.

A rash can be simply described as an obvious irritation or visible inflammation of the skin. Rashes have many possible causes, including allergies, infection, illness, exposure to heat, and emotional stress.

Here are a few tips on how to care for rashes

·         1 Wash the area with water only. Soap can make the dryness and itching worse. Pat dry with a clean towel.

·         2 Put  cold, wet clothing on the rash to reduce itching.

·         3 Keep the rash area cool, and stay out of the sun.

·         4 Leave the rash open to the air as much of the time as possible.

·         5 Sometimes applying petroleum jelly can help relieve the discomfort caused by a rash. A moisturizing lotion may prove helpful too. Calamine lotion may help for rashes caused by contact with something (such as a plant or soap) that irritated the skin. Use it 3 or 4 times a day.

·         6 If your doctor prescribed a cream, use it as directed. If your doctor prescribed medicine, take it exactly as directed.

·         7 If your rash itches so badly that it interferes with your normal activities, take an over-the-counter antihistamine medications, but be sure to read and follow all instructions on the label.

Watch closely for changes in your health, and be sure to contact a doctor if:

·         - Your rash is changing or getting worse.

·         - if you have pain along with the rash

·         - if the rash is spreading fast,

·         - if it occurs with blisters

·         - if the rash is not better or reduced after a week of care
