Members of the Volunteer Medical Corps Maiduguri, Bauchi carried out an outreach to the Borno State Special Needs School where they delivered a health talk on personal hygiene and reproductive health and also presented the female students with sanitary towels.
Many days of school-absenteeism are recorded among teenage girls who come from low-income communities, and this can in some cases occur due to lack of sanitary towels for their monthly cycles.
Apart from the psychological impact this has on the girls, their education is negatively affected. These are some of the reasons for this intervention which was carried out in collaboration with the Humanitarian Volunteer Network in Maiduguri.
